The Wild Angels (1966)
Their credo is violence...Their God is hate...and they call themselves 'The Wild Angels'
Roger Corman takes a very budgeted look at a small time biker gang. This southern California gang loves rumbles, motorcycle jousts, fighting Mexicans, booze, sex, and more sex.
It starts off with Blues(Fonda) going to see his friend the Loser about his stolen bike. The Angels are rounded up, and hit the road to Mecca( a small desert town). There the bike recovery doesn't go as planned and the Loser takes off on a police cruiser. He ends up getting shot and going to the hospital (before prison). The Angels decide to break him out.
While in the hospital, another Angel rapes a nurse. Still the Loser ends up dying. The Angels throw him a funeral to remember: Nazi Flags, Rape, Booze, Drugs, and the best yet, Dancing!
A lot of people look at this as the big brother to Easy Rider. The Wild Angels also features a bitchin soundtrack like Davie Allan and the Arrows. Nancy Sinatra is a knock out in this movie as well. Check it out! Where else can you hear a bunch of bikes roarin down the road and some awesome fuzzy instrumentals in the background? Plus dont forget all the hot mamas!
Yeah, this is a great bit of sixties drive-in trash. And don't forget the film's powerful message, as stated by Peter Fonda: "We wanna be free to ride our machines without being hassled by The Man! ... And we wanna get loaded."
ReplyDeleteThis movie is the PERFECT marriage between soundtrack and picture.
